Cape100 is a 100 km road ultramarathon from Hermanus to Stellenbosch. To participate in the inaugural event, every athlete must meet the official qualification and eligibility requirements.
Qualification is based on a verified, officially timed road marathon performance, together with the applicable age, club membership and athletics licensing requirements.
THE STANDARD.
To qualify for Cape100, athletes must complete an officially timed 42.2 km road marathon in under five hours within the designated qualification period.
Athletes may enter Cape100 before completing their qualifying marathon, provided they achieve the required standard within the qualification period and submit their result by the official deadline.
THE DATES THAT MATTER.
01 JAN 2026 – 31 MAY 2027
Your qualifying road marathon must take place within this period, including both dates.
01 NOVEMBER 2026
Athletes can begin submitting qualifying results through their Cape100 Entry Ninja profile.
07 JUNE 2027
All qualifying results must be submitted by this date.
07 JUNE 2027
South African athletes must have updated their Entry Ninja profiles with their valid 2027 club and ASA permanent licence information.
WHAT COUNTS.
A valid Cape100 qualifying performance must meet these requirements:
- Officially timed 42.2 km road marathon.
- Finishing time of 4:59:59 or faster.
- Race date between 1 January 2026 and 31 May 2027.
- Official race result available for verification.
- Qualification submitted by 7 June 2027.

PROVE YOUR PERFORMANCE.
Online qualification submissions open on 1 November 2026. Athletes must log into their existing Cape100 Entry Ninja profile to submit their qualifying marathon details.
Run an officially timed 42.2 km road marathon within the qualification window.
From 1 November 2026, access your Cape100 entry profile and provide your official qualifying marathon details.
Ensure your official result and all required athlete profile information have been submitted by the deadline.
Cape100 may verify submitted results against official race records. Athletes remain responsible for ensuring their information is accurate and submitted on time.
AGE REQUIREMENTS.
All athletes must be at least 20 years old on race day, Sunday, 5 September 2027.
CLUB & LICENCE REQUIREMENTS.
Cape100 is affiliated to Boland Athletics and will operate under the applicable rules of Athletics South Africa (ASA) and World Athletics.
2027 CLUB & PERMANENT LICENCE
South African athletes must belong to an eligible athletics club and hold a valid 2027 ASA permanent licence by 7 June 2027.
Athletes must update their Cape100 Entry Ninja profile with their current club and 2027 licence details by this date.
TEMPORARY ATHLETICS LICENCE REQUIRED
All Rest of Africa and International athletes must purchase a temporary athletics licence to participate in Cape100 2027.
Temporary licenses will be availble during the entry process.
ENTRY IS NOT QUALIFICATION.
Securing a Cape100 entry does not automatically mean an athlete has satisfied the qualification or licensing requirements.
Athletes who have not yet achieved their qualifying marathon may still enter, provided they subsequently meet the qualification standard and submit their official result by 7 June 2027.
Likewise, athletes do not need to be registered with an athletics club or hold their 2027 permanent licence at the time of entry.
South African athletes must, however, ensure that their qualifying result, club membership and 2027 ASA permanent licence details have been submitted or updated by the deadline.
